The goals of this project are to identify specific changes that will address one or more of the concerns or needs related to the experience at Wynwood Yard for staff and/or visitors. Working in a team, you will use a human-centered design process to discover and understand users for whom you will design a product or space that will improve their experience at Wynwood Yard. Ultimately, the strength and depth of your design work will be showcased in a presentation to fellow participants, project partners and coaches that communicates the depth of your research, insight, and an awesome prototype.



Explore this space and context by engaging specific people who have unique needs, behaviors, preferences, beliefs... and whose participation determines whether any particular approach will be successful or not. Immerse yourself in an experience that will help deepen your empathy for your target user.

Define and Synthesize

Unpack and distill your interviews and experiences. Identify surprising findings. Organize and reorganize your data to find patterns and new knowledge. Identify gaps, if any, between the intent and the reality experienced by the people affected by it. Highlight the needs of your target users. Define the outcomes you are designing toward, and the impact you believe they will make on a specific facet of the space.


Generate many solutions to the design challenge as you have defined it.

Prototype and Test

Bring concepts to life to test your assumptions. Experiment and learn from testing rough versions of one or several different solutions with real users.                        


Craft a set of materials that vividly show your key findings and ideas for solutions. Abstract your learnings from the investigation of this specific approach to draw conclusions about implementation in general. Identify best practices as well as common pitfalls or mistakes. Communicate your findings in a visual and concise way.



The goals of this project are to identify specific changes that will address one or more of the concerns or needs related to the experience at The Wynwood Yard for staff and/or visitors. On April 2nd, you will share your user insights and solution ideas with the other teams in the class and a number of interested parties from various stakeholders surrounding the issue.  Prepare for a rapid process in less than 48 hours.

Friday 3/31

As a team, conduct two deep interviews with individuals from your user group.
These interviews typically take between 20-40 minutes.                     

Saturday 4/01

Continue to conduct empathy work through observing and engaging users.
Revise, tweak or re-craft your Point of View based upon your empathy work.
Design and create a testable functional prototype. Discuss your testing environment as a team and prepare your testers to engage with your prototype onsite.

Sunday 4/02

Share your insights and solution ideas in a compelling, 5 minute presentation
to fellow participants, project partners, and coaches.
